Writing classes are available for 1st grade to 6th grade (1st graders must be able to read and write sentences upon enrollment). The year long curriculum is split into two imperative foci: reading and writing. HHCS fervently believes that strong readers create strong writers who become strong speakers and leaders. Utilizing the learning traits from Texas Education Agency, the Fall semester focuses on reading comprehension strategies, skills,  and literary components along with a fun reading contest and required book report. The Spring semester focuses on writing with different essay styles, grammar, and skill development alongside a required writing contest.
